The process is simple! A plastic “retractor” is placed into the mouth to hold the cheeks and tongue in position and a protective dam is applied to the gums. The whitening gel is applied to the teeth. The main ingredient in the whitening gel is Chlorine Dioxide. This chemical turns to water and molecular oxygen, which penetrates the enamel and almost all types of stains are lifted out.

The laser light acts as a catalyst and activates the whitening agent in the gel by delivering an optimal bandwidth of light energy. The whitening gel is specifically formulated to respond to this wavelength of light and the reaction created whitens the teeth within the “smile region.”

Research data to date shows there is no risk to the enamel of the teeth or gums, and during the advised 24-48 hours temporary sensitivity is experienced by a small percentage of users.
Four applications are applied during the treatment session which will last from 1 to 2 hours [including pre and post treatment consultation]. Your therapist will advise how to prevent stains reoccurring to keep your teeth looking whiter for longer.

Does teeth whitening really work? Of course it does! The main ingredient in the LA smile system is Chlorine Dioxide, which is a safe and effective bleaching agent; almost all natural teeth respond to the process.

Who can benefit from teeth whitening? Anyone over the age of 16 who has their own teeth and desires a more confident smile will benefit from teeth whitening. However, pregnant and nursing women should consult their doctor before using any teeth whitening product. Certain medical conditions may also preclude treatment.

How long will results last? Results can last up to 24 months but this depends on the lifestyle, age, diet, tooth structure and oral hygiene of the client. However, it should be noted that tea, coffee, red wine and smoking will reduce this time. To ensure your teeth always look great we recommend the Booster treatment every 6 to 12 months.

How does the whitening gel actually work? The surface of the teeth contain millions of microscopic pores and over time organic compounds from tea, coffee, red wine, fizzy drinks, tobacco etc. saturate these pores and cause discolouration of the tooth enamel The main ingredient in the L.A. Smile whitening treatment gel is Chlorine Dioxide which, when activated by the laser light, penetrates the enamel and lifts out almost all types of stains.

What about my crowns, veneers, bridges, fillings or false teeth? The system will not harm crowns, veneers, bridges, fillings or false teeth; however they will not be lightened beyond the original colour. It should be noted that after treatment natural teeth may become whiter than the colour of the implants. This is because the dentist will have matched the implant to the colour of the teeth at the time of fitting.

Will teeth whitening damage the enamel of my teeth? Research data shows there is no risk to the enamel of the teeth other than the advised 24-48 hour possibility of temporary sensitivity.

Will teeth whitening damage my gums? People with periodontal disease (gum disease) or excessive caries (cavities) should be treated by their dentist prior to using any teeth whitening products. The active ingredient in the gel is safe but if prolonged sensitivity of the gums beyond the normal 24-48 hours does occur it could indicate an existing problem and your dentist should be consulted.

Will it Hurt? Most people find the procedure painless, however a small percentage may experience temporary sensitivity to hot and cold for 24-48 hours following treatment.


What are the alternatives

Home bleaching kits. Results with tray systems produce barely noticeable results. They require application for between 1 hour or overnight everyday for at least two weeks. Some contain mild acids, which cause sensitivity during and after each use and others are abrasive which can cause ulcers and damage to the gums if the product is not used properly. With LA Smile LASER whitening the results are fast and INSTANT.

Whitening toothpastes. This is the least effective method for tooth whitening. Some toothpastes that claim to whiten your teeth can be extremely abrasive and damaging to the enamel on your teeth LA Smile LASER teeth whitening is not abrasive and does not damage the enamel on your teeth.

Laser teeth whitening using a hydrogen peroxide solution. The legal guidelines state that for the safe use of Hydrogen Peroxide the concentration must be within of 0.1 per cent (which is totally ineffective for whitening). Hydrogen Peroxide is a harsh product to use on the teeth and gums if higher levels are used, and it can aggravate gum disease and cause teeth to become sensitive. LA Smile LASER whitening produces significantly whiter results than Hydrogen Peroxide without the associated sensitivity.
